My name is Herta Wang, and I am a freshman at Tenafly High School. I became interested in working with Care Compass USA after the organization and its goals were brought up in a conversation with a friend. As a child of two Taiwanese immigrants, it is easy to understand the struggles of grasping an unfamiliar country’s social systems and cultures. Moving from a country with easily accessible healthcare, like Taiwan, can make it especially difficult to navigate the twist and turns of American health care—not to mention the daunting language barrier. The amount of time and effort it requires to properly research and comprehend these topics may not be available to everyone, as they may be busy trying to settle in and readjust to their unfamiliar surroundings. Therefore, after seeing an opportunity to contribute to my community and help others through Care Compass USA, I immediately agreed to join to help ease the process for incoming immigrants.
