My name is Ryan Yu, and I am a junior at Bergen County Academies. As a child, I did not know about the complexities of navigating the imposing costs of healthcare. My mother single-handedly dealt with the painstaking details within the system, having undergone surgical procedures in the USA. Though it was stressful, she did not complain to anybody about it once.
That’s why I joined Care Compass: to reduce the struggles of people like my mother. Health is a crucial topic for immigrants not just due to its inaccessibility, but the fact that moving to the USA already creates unhealthy mountains of real stress (financially, physically, and mentally). I hope to empower immigrants to feel confident about how they approach the healthcare system. That way, they won’t feel the need to stay silent.
